LCD television with dark band across middle of screen?

My LCD television has developed a dark line straight across the middle of the screen. It is more visible against a bright background and is totally ruining the picture. Why has this happened and what can I do if anything to rectify it. Television is out of guarantee. Many thanks.

  1. Sounds like screen burn. This can be caused by a similar image being onscreen for long periods of time over the lifetime of the TV. Sounds like widescreen movies (black bands at top and bottom of the screen) has caused this. The LCD screen can be replaced but it's not cheap. You might be better off getting a new set.
  2. Could be screen burn or if it is not caused by the widescreen viewing for long periods of time - it could be the LCD matrix within the unit - if that is the case - new telly time matey. Repair would cost more than a new one - not economical
  3. You have either the LVDI (display driver) card gone sour on you, or the display itself. Take the set in for service, if it is the signal board, it might just be worth repair, if it's the display, you need to get another set. The cost of a new display usually exceeds the cost of a new set.
  4. LCD screen has huge amount of pins inside (horizontal and vertical). If chip(driver) or LCD itself or connection between LCD and chip is bad you'll see staight line in any place of LCD screen. If TV is cheapest model it happend often. Repair is not cost effective.
