What is the life span of a plasma television?
Public Comments
- Depends on the brand and the age of the set. The first generation ones can have a life of as little as 8000 hours, whereas the newest models have lifespans of around 100,000 hours and it's constantly going up as newer models come out. My Panasonic 50 inch plasma, bought last year, was quoted at 80,000 hours. I guess the lesson to be learned is: don't buy a used plasma TV. Ever.
- Bought a panasonic 50 inch plasma also. I heard that the half life of the screen is 60, 000 hours. So if you watch tv 7 hours a day (avg. for U.S. household) for 27 years, you would hit 60,000 hours. In the end, if you bought a lemon, it will die sooner. If you are lucky, you will have that TV until newer tech. comes out in 20 years.
