What are the pros and cons of your plasma television?
For those who have one... What brand model do you have and what are its pros and cons that you've discovered since owning it I'm personally after a Panasonic, but I'm torn between decsisions on whther I want the TH-42PX60U or its upscale sister the TH-42PX600U (see links) What do you think? 60U -- http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7679185&st=th42px60u&lp=1&type=product&cp=1&id=1134703131623 600U -- http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7669392&st=th42px600u&type=product&id=1151658133395

- it depends what you watch. they get really really hot, and if you watch the news or anything with a ticker alot it will burn into the tv. personally i'd go with a lcd w/ DLP(r)
- Out of the two the 60U basically everything that the 600U does, but is significantly less expensive. However, the cons outweigh the pros when it comes to the plasma television. Mainly the problems of screen burn-in which is permanent if this occurs. My choice is either one of Sony's Bravia LCD HDTVs, or perhaps the best value on the HDTV market right now is the Westinghouse 1080p LCD HDTVs. H a p p y V i e w i n g !
- Buy the one you like the best
- No offense to others... but please stop bringing up bur-in as a con. Over the years plasma has gone beyond casual burn-in. You would have to set a static image on the screen and LEAVE IT THERE for hours on end for it to burn in to the screen phosphors. And even then you have what's known as temporary burn-in and permanent burn-in. Temporary is just that. Modern plasmas have the ability to "wash" the image from the screen by displaying either "snow" or a lot of gray. Burn-in for a plasma is about the same as burn-in for a CRT nowadays. You are actually looking at the two TVs that I'm deciding on for Christmas this year. The more expensive one has PiP, and a Cablecard to eliminate the need for a cable box as well as the ability to hook up a computer to the screen. The lower cost one does not. Check out the site in the link below. Actually may I suggest that EVERYBODY check out that link so we can start getting a little more educated answers to questions about Plasma, and stop answers like,... "you have to replace the gas every other year." and "They burn-in real easily." and "they only last 2 years or so"
- I just purchased the 50" samsung plasma from circuit city. I love it, I have no bad issues with it except the 2 minutes my heart stopped beating when my wife and I had to hoist the 93 lb beast onto the wall mount then hope the studs in our 60 year old house didn't give out when we moved back. I would recommend this tv to anyone.
- The 600u is a much better set! It upscales the non HD sources MUCH better than the 60u. I also like the frame of the 600u better. As for pros and cons.. Plasma could give you a glare due to its glass panel. LCD does a better job not reflecting glare. LCD might be brighter and exaggerate some colors, but Plasma is usually more accurate.
