Can some DVD players be incompatible with new TV sets?

Can some DVD players be incompatible with new TV sets? I just bought a 37" Samsung telly and it is brilliant! However, one problem: with some DVD discs, all the colour becomes pale and greeny. My DVD machine is a Toshiba dual DVD/VCR player. However, when I played the DVDs in question on a multi-region player, the colour was normal.

1. make sure you have it connected right check your leads.
2. Check your cables and the settings on your DVD player. Assuming that your new TV is an HDTV (I'm guessing that it is), make sure that you're using component cables (the green, blue, and red cables) and that your DVD player is set for 480p output via component. That may be the cause of your problems.
3. The problem is more than likely due to the connectors. If you are using SCART then make sure that the DVD machine is outputting to the same standard as the tv is expecting. SCART connectors can carry picture signals in three formats: RGB, S-Video or Composite. Which type of signal is being carried can be configured in the sending and receiving devices, via their set up menus. By default, the RGB configuration is normal. It is quite common for the pins in SCART plugs to become loose, and for the internal soldered joints to become intermittent. It can also happen to the sockets in the player or tv set. If this happens then the pin carrying the R (red) information may be making intermittent contact at one of the plugs. In the absence (or weakness) of R you will be left with G (green) and B (blue) signals dominating. You will then see a predominantlly greeny/blue picture.
