What new TV sets do you all recommend? Best bang for your buck?

My husband would like a TV for Christmas. We mainly use it for watching movies and normal viewing....no games. I have heard about plasmas and HD...but what is the best for the money? I would probably get one about medium sized ...not a huge screen. Any thoughts out there? Trying to make a cost effective decision.

The very best buy, dollar-for-dollar, for both performance and reliability, for YOUR stated uses is the Panasonic Viera plasma, probably in the 42" size, depending on how far you sit from the screen. If more than 10' look at a 46" or 50" model. At 42"-46", you have no real need for 1080p native resolution. The 720p/1080i models will be just fine, and probably blow your socks off. Just remember, to take advantage of the great picture, you will need HD service from your cable or satellite provider and HDMI or component cables. The 42" 720p on sale will run you somewhere between $650 and $800.
