can widescreen DVDs be played on regular TV sets?

I want to play a dvd that is a widescreen edition one on a regular size tv set. is that possible? will the picture be good?

1. Yes you can. The entire widescreen image will be displayed, with black bars above and below the picture.

3. don't know why not,check your set up menu,some players will allow you to compensate and veiw your widescreen as a regular picture
