A factory was required to produce a certain number of plasma tv sets in 4 days. On the first day, the factory produced one seventh of the required number of tv sets. On the second day, it produced 30 sets. On the third day, it produced as many tv sets as those produced on the first 2 days. On the fourth day, the factory completed the remaining 25 sets. How man plasma tv sets did the factory produce on the third day?

  1. 2(x/7 + 30) + 25 = x 2x/7 + 60 + 25 = x 85 = 5x/7 17 = x/7 x = 119 total sets produced. Since x/7 = 17 (from above), on the third day (x/7 + 30) sets were produced: (x/7 + 30) = (17 + 30) = 47 sets First day: x/7 sets = 17 sets Second day: 30 sets Third day: as many as on the first two days = 17+30 = 47 Last day: 25 sets Total: 17 + 30 + 47 + 25 = 119 sets
  2. (1/7)x + 30 + ((1/7)x + 30) + 25 = x x = 119 3rd day = 47
  3. x= the total number produced in 4 days (x/7)+(30)+(x/7+30)+(25)=x x+210+x+210+175=7x x=119 Day 3: 119/7 + 30 = 47
